Bringing hope to brain cancer patients!

Craig Hannam and his team have brought hope to brain cancer patients by completing the Gold Coast marathon on Sunday, 2 July 2017. Craig Hannam is an inspirational member of the Newro Foundation, dedicating majority of his spare time to raise awareness and funds for brain cancer research. Craig strives to give patients and their families, hope and courage to fight the battle against brain cancer. Craig and Team Hannam decided to fight the odds-on 2 July 2017 and participate in this mental and physical challenge.

Here is a brief insight into Craig's story:

"I have always been a stats person. This year May 2017 I was able to reach 5-year survival for GBM. To commemorate this, I decided to do the Gold Coast Marathon - only 5% of the world population ever complete one. 5% of those diagnosed with GBM get to 5 years. All my 5's were lining up and I thought this was my year to complete by bucket list item.

Race Day...excitement, anxiety, anticipation were all factors leading up to the start of the race at 7.20am on the 2nd July.  I had three other people running with me - one a friend and two from my local gym who were all doing their first marathon to support me. I wanted to complete not only because it was on my bucket list but also to show myself and those around me that there is hope and a terminal illness doesn't need you to stop achieving things in life or setting goals. When you put your mind to it you can do anything. Also, through the race I was raising funds and awareness for brain cancer. We need to keep spreading the word, raising money for research and also to continue to support those who are dealing with this disease".

We would like to congratulate Craig and the team on their amazing achievement, you are an inspiration to us all.
